The painting depicts in his painting style derived from Pointillism in particularly close contact with his painter friends Paul Signac and Maximilien Luce. The artwork will be developed prior to 1905 and therefore earlier to his time in Lagny.
Because of its themes and the unique joy in his colors and shapes Lebasque was admired.
After his studies he joined the studio of Bonnat. He also maintains an intensive exchange with young painters such as Vuillard and Bonnard, the founders of the artists' association "Nabi" and "Intimists."
In 1903 he founded, together with Matisse and other artists the Salon d'Automne.
The first retrospective exhibition of his work is presented only twenty years after his death at the Musée des Ponchettes in Nice.
