The painting with impulsive characteristic style and strong coloring represents a view from the rocky coastline of the Brittany island Île de Bréhat.
First, he began his training at the landscape and marine painter Paul Sain.
In 1901 he takes part in exhibitions in Paris at the Salon des Artistes Françaises (himself later a member of the jury), and enters the studio of Fernand Cormon.
Various honors and a travel grant enabling him to countries such as Italy and Spain, while touring to stay a long time in Florence, Venice and Mallorca.
Again and again he also paints in Provence. In Avignon he is co-founder of the "Groupe des Treize", with their exhibition he celebrates great achievements. In 1920 he is director of the École des Beaux-Arts in Avignon.
From 1954 to '59 he was also curator of the museum in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon.
